Hi, Iām Kate
I grew up in Fairbanks Alaska which, if you are not familiar, is a place that encourages both, intimate connection and reliance on community through the dark months, and a certain level of independence, and ability to look out for yourself.
My family is very active and I spent my time growing up in the woods, mountains, and xc ski trails. Winter cabin trips as a family required intentional planning and acknowledgment of the severity of the climate around us.
Being prepared was required, and I quickly learned to value the products that I could rely on to perform over and over again under harsh conditions, and in remote locations where their failure could be catastrophic.
I fell in love with industrial design as a way to stay inquisitive and curious about the world around me. I see struggles and pain points as opportunities to improve design. I believe that as designers, we have the power to impact lives.
